Hi, I’m Jojo, an artist based in Bristol with a passion for colour, fun, and togetherness. I guess I think of myself as a “greedy artist”—I want to explore every material and discipline I can get my hands on! But at the heart of everything I create is the desire to make art that makes people think and smile.

My Journey

My path as an artist has been anything but straightforward. After leaving school, I floated between A-levels that didn’t inspire me and a job that felt like a dead end. It wasn’t until I went back to college to study art that I found my calling. That led to a Fine Art degree and, eventually, to a lot of trial and error trying to find my creative identity.

Like many artists, I struggled to figure out how to turn my passion into a career. I tried different disciplines, ideas, and mediums, but nothing stuck—partly because of my tendency to chase every new idea, and partly because life threw some hard challenges my way. But in 2018, after a bit of an intervention, I decided to focus on illustration.

Since then, it’s been a rollercoaster. I threw myself into markets, invested in my craft, and kept learning. The pandemic gave me space to retrain, heal, and develop systems to stay motivated and focused. Now, with a clear vision for my brand and goals for the future, I’ve never felt more driven.

The Inspiration Behind Fowl Plays

Fowl Plays is my print emporium, a colorful, playful world I’ve built to take the edge off life’s grey moments. It’s my therapy, my escape, and a space for anyone who wants to join in the fun. Inspired by everything I’ve ever seen, felt, or experienced, it’s a blend of vibrant colors, stories, and designs that I hope bring joy to others.

My work draws from so many influences—nature, fantasy, sci-fi, folklore, festivals, rave culture, and even my personal experiences with illness and grief. These moments, both joyful and challenging, push me to create art that celebrates life and brings people together.
